This part of the chapter focuses on repair procedures for the 2AZ-FE four-cylinder engine. Information related to the removal, installation and overhaul of the engine is given in parts in this chapter.
The following repair procedures are not based on the assumption that the engine has not been removed from the vehicle. Therefore, if this information is used when repairing an engine that has already been removed and installed on a stand, many of the points described in this part of the chapter will not be applicable. Technical data, included in this part of the chapter apply only to the procedures described later in this chapter.
The engine in question has an aluminum cylinder block and is equipped with a lower crankcase section to allow reinforcement of the lower section of the block. The cylinder head has two overhead camshafts (DOHC). Each cylinder has four valves. The camshafts are driven by a single timing chain from the crankshaft. The intake camshaft is equipped with a variable valve timing unit (WT), allowing to increase engine power and reduce the level of harmful emissions.
