Removing
1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery (see paragraph 1 chapter 5).
2. Remove the engine cover.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors of the ignition coils, unscrew the nuts securing the wiring harness on the cylinder head cover and position the wiring harness of the ignition coils to the sides. Then remove the ignition coils from the spark plugs (see chapter 5).
4. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation hoses from the cylinder head cover.
5. Turn out bolts and turn away nuts of fastening of a cover of a head of cylinders (pic. 4.7b), then detach the cover from the cylinder head and remove the gasket. If the cap does not separate from the head, hit the edge of the cap with a hammer through a block of wood to pry the cap out of place. If this does not help, try inserting a flexible spatula between the head and cap to «open» seal.
Warning. Do not open the joint between the cover and the cylinder head with various makeshift levers. This can lead to damage to the sealing surfaces of both elements and, as a result, after installing the cylinder head cover, there is no place for oil to leak through this joint.
Installation
6. Remove the gasket from the cylinder head cover and clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone. Install a new rubber gasket by evenly pressing it into the grooves around the perimeter of the underside of the cylinder head cover.
Note. Before installing the cylinder head cover, make sure that the spark plug port seals are in their original positions on the back of the cover (pic. 4.6). The mating surfaces of the timing chain cover, cylinder head and cylinder head cover must be absolutely clean when installing the head cover. If gasket material remains on the mating surfaces or oil sags, oil leaks may occur when the cover is installed.

7. Apply RTV Sealant («Room Temperature Vulcanizer» - vulcanizing at room temperature») at the joint between the timing chain cover and the cylinder head, and then install the cylinder head cover and screw in the bolts/nuts (pic. 4.7, a, b).

8. Tighten the nuts/bolts to the specified torque given in Specifications at the beginning of this chapter, in an even sequence of three or four stages.
9. Reinstall the rest of the components, start the engine and check for oil leaks.
