Engine overhaul
The main objective indicators of the general condition of the engine, indicating the need for a major overhaul with complete disassembly, are the results of measurements of oil pressure, compression and the degree of vacuum created on the intake manifold. Oil pressure gives an indication of the wear of engine parts. Unscrew the oil pressure switch and screw in a verified pressure gauge instead, ensuring the tightness of the seal. Measure the oil pressure at idle and at the speed indicated in subsection 3.3.1, compare the measured values with the standard values.
When performing a major overhaul, it is recommended to check, repair or replace the alternator, starter and ignition distributor. Preliminary scope of work and costs for engine restoration (repair of the head, cylinder block, crank and valve mechanisms) determined by its condition at the time of removal and disassembly. The determining factor is the condition of the cylinder block, which in some cases it is advisable to replace.
When assembling a repaired engine, all gaskets and seals, the coolant pump, the oil pump, and all belts must be replaced.
