Engine assembly sequence [Toyota Highlander XU20]

1. Before assembly, check that all necessary new spare parts, gaskets and seals are present, as well as the following items:
  • general purpose metalworking tools,
  • torque wrench with ½ inch socket,
  • fresh motor oil,
  • sealant,
  • compound for locking threaded connections.

2. If you purchased an incomplete cylinder block, you will need to install the cylinder head, oil pump and oil pick-up pipe, oil pan, coolant pump, timing belt/chain and timing cover, and cylinder head cover (see chapter 2A or 2B). To save time and avoid unnecessary problems, it is recommended to assemble the engine in the general sequence indicated below:
  • thermostat and thermostat housing cover,
  • coolant pump,
  • intake and exhaust manifolds,
  • fuel injection system components,
  • elements related to emission reduction systems,
  • spark plugs,
  • ignition coils,
  • oil filter,
  • engine supports and support brackets,
  • flywheel and clutch (manual transmission in block with driving axle),
  • faceplate (automatic transmission in block with driving axle).
