- remove the gearbox;
- remove the flywheel/drive plate;

- replacement of the sealing ring can be carried out without removing the oil pan and the rear cover of the cylinder block (pic. 3.46). However, this method is not recommended as the sealing ring lip is very hard and may be damaged during installation. Use a screwdriver blade to remove the old O-ring from the socket. Clean the O-ring seat and crankshaft journal. Lubricate the working lip of the new sealing ring and the crankshaft journal with engine oil and, pressing in, install the sealing ring. This work must be done very carefully, as it is easy to damage the working edge of the sealing ring.
Second - the main one - the method of replacing the sealing ring requires the removal of the oil pan and the rear cover of the cylinder block. To replace the ring using the second method, do the following:
- remove the oil pan. Turn out bolts and remove a back cover of the block of cylinders. With a hard plastic or wooden scraper, clean the mating surfaces of the rear cover and cylinder block from the remnants of the old gasket;

- install the back cover on two wooden blocks, knock out the sealing ring with a hammer and screwdriver (pic. 3.47);
- install a new sealing ring in the back cover, for which use a flat wooden block or a tubular mandrel, with an outer diameter slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the ring;
- Lubricate the working lip of the new O-ring and the crankshaft journal with engine oil. Install a new gasket on the cylinder block;
- Slowly and carefully install the rear cover with O-ring onto the crankshaft until it is in contact with the cylinder block. Fix the cover with bolts, tightening them with a torque of 13 Nm. Make sure that the lower plane of the cover does not protrude beyond the mating surface of the cylinder block on which the oil pan is installed.
Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
