Removal and installation

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the negative battery terminal.

2. Loosen the lock nut on the threaded portion of the accelerator cable on the throttle body (see Figure 11.2).

Figure 11.2. Loosen the accelerator cable lock nut using two open-end wrenches.

3. Turn the throttle sector and release the accelerator cable end from the slot on the sector (see Figure 11.3).

Figure 11.3. Turn the throttle sector and pull the cable end out of the slot using needle-nose pliers.

4. Disconnect the other end of the cable from the accelerator pedal (see Figure 11.4).

Figure 11.4. Remove the cable end (shown by the arrow) from the accelerator pedal lever, then pull it out through the slot in the lever.

5. Pull the accelerator cable together with the housing through the firewall into the engine compartment.

6. Install the cable in the reverse order of removal. Make sure the rubber cable grommet is properly seated in the hole in the firewall.

Adjustment

7. To adjust the accelerator cable, do the following:

[The article is taken from a web resource TOYOTAMAN.ru]
  • Lift the cable up to take up all the slack.
  • Turn the adjusting nut until there is 3 mm left before the cable lock.
  • Tighten the lock nut and check the cable deflection in the area between the throttle sector and the cable retainer. The deflection should be between 10-12 mm. If the deflection deviates from the specified value, loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting nut until the deflection is correct.

After you have adjusted the accelerator cable, have an assistant press the accelerator pedal all the way down - check that the sector has full travel and that it returns smoothly, without sticking, to the closed position.
