Throttle body
Caution! Gasoline is extremely flammable, so exercise extreme caution when working around the fuel system (see paragraph 2).
Examination
1. Turn off the engine and make sure that the accelerator cable and throttle operate smoothly and without sticking. If the cable gets stuck, check the condition of the cable along its entire route, making sure there are no kinks or pinches. If there is no external damage, remove the cable and check that the core is not jammed in the sheath. Replace the faulty cable. If it's not the cable, check the throttle shaft.
2. Disconnect the intake air duct from the throttle body and check the inside of the body for cleanliness. If dirt is evident, wash it off with an aerosol can of carburetor cleaner and a toothbrush (see figure 14.2,a,6).

After reading the instructions, make sure that this aerosol will not damage the oxygen sensor and catalytic converter.
Warning. Do not wash the throttle position sensor and idle air control valve with solvents, as this will damage them.
Removal and installation
Caution: Allow the engine to cool completely before beginning this procedure.
Models produced before 2003
3. Disconnect the ground cable from the negative battery terminal.
4. Loosen the clamps and remove the intake air duct.
5. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle sector (see paragraph 11).
6. If you are dealing with a pre-2000 model equipped with an automatic transmission, disconnect its throttle cable from the throttle sector (see chapter 7B).
7. Clearly mark and then disconnect all vacuum and coolant hoses (see Figure 14.7).

Plug the cooling system hoses to prevent fluid from leaking out.
8. Disconnect the wiring connector from the throttle position sensor.
9. Loosen the nuts/bolts securing the throttle body (see figure 14.9, a, b).
10. Separate the throttle body and gasket from the intake manifold.
11. The throttle body is installed in the reverse order of its removal. Be sure to place a new gasket between the throttle body and the intake manifold.
12. Tighten the throttle body mounting nuts/bolts to the specified torque Specifications of this chapter.
13. Check the coolant level and, if necessary, top it up to the norm (see "Weekly checks").
Models produced since 2004
14. Disconnect the ground cable from the negative battery terminal (see paragraph 1 of chapter 5).
15. Remove the strut brace (see chapter 10).
16. Remove the air intake duct and air filter housing cover.
17. Remove the air filter housing with the mass air flow sensor and its bracket (see paragraph 10).
18. Disconnect the coolant hoses that go to the bottom of the throttle body to minimize coolant loss.
19. Before removing the throttle body, disconnect the wiring connector from the throttle body and release the wiring harness from the retainer on the fuel line bracket (see Figure 14.19).

20. Release the fuel hose from the retainer on the bracket, then clearly mark and disconnect the vacuum and coolant hoses from the throttle body. Plug the cooling system hoses to prevent fluid from leaking out.
21. Loosen the throttle body mounting bolts (see Figure 4.21) and remove the throttle body.

22. Remove and discard the old throttle body gasket.
23. The throttle body is installed in the reverse order of its removal. Be sure to place a new gasket between the throttle body and the intake manifold. Tighten the throttle body mounting nuts/bolts to the torque specified in the Specifications. Check the coolant level and top it up if necessary (see "Weekly checks").
