Crankshaft pulley/damper
1. Remove the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the accessory drive belt (see Chapter 1A).
3. Apply the parking brake and move the automatic transmission selector lever to the Park position or the manual transmission selector lever to fourth gear, then loosen the mounting nuts on the right front wheel. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it with safety stands. Remove the right front wheel and the mudguard from the right front wheel arch.
4. Loosen the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt. For this purpose you may need a good extension bar as the bolt is tightened very tightly (see Figure 11.4).
Figure 11.4. To prevent the crankshaft pulley from turning while loosening its mounting bolt, you can use a puller with several spacers, installing it on the crankshaft pulley hub.
To prevent the crankshaft pulley from turning while loosening its mounting bolt, you can use a puller with several spacers, installing it on the crankshaft pulley hub. Before installing the puller, place the socket head on the pulley mounting bolt, then insert the extension into the center hole of the puller and connect it to the head.
5. After screwing the puller bolts into the crankshaft hub, remove the pulley from the crankshaft (see Figure 11.5).
Figure 11.5. Reinstall the puller, this time with the central bolt, onto the crankshaft pulley hub and remove the pulley.
Note: Depending on the type of puller, you may need to lift the engine, remove the right engine mount, and then lower the engine to make room to install the puller.
Warning. Do not use a three-jaw puller as it may damage the crankshaft pulley/damper assembly.
6. To install the pulley, place it on the crankshaft and slide it as far as possible along the crankshaft, then, using a socket head or a piece of metal pipe of the appropriate diameter, press the pulley into place so that the pulley keyway aligns with the crankshaft key (see Figure 11.6).

To press the pulley onto the crankshaft, you can also use its mounting bolt.
7. Tighten the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt to the specified torque Specifications moment.
8. Installation of the remaining components is the reverse procedure of removal.
