Removal



1. Following the procedure described in paragraphs 1-17 paragraph 6, remove the timing chain and crankshaft sprocket.

2. Remove the oil pump drive chain and its sprockets (see figure 14.2,a,b).



Figure 14.2,a. Turn the engine crankshaft 90° counterclockwise (relative to TDC), so that the crankshaft key is directed to the left horizontally (A), then remove the oil pump drive chain tensioner and unscrew the bolt (B).




Figure 14.2,b. Using a screwdriver to secure the lower sprocket, loosen the mounting bolt and remove the oil pump drive chain and lower sprocket from the engine.


3. Unscrew the three bolts and remove the oil pump housing from the engine (see Figure 14.3).

If the housing cannot be removed, it can be carefully pushed out with a screwdriver by inserting it into the joint between the block and the pump housing.

4. Using a special scraper, remove all traces of the old gasket and sealant from the mating flanges of the oil pump housing and block, then wipe them with a rag soaked in varnish thinner or acetone.

5. Inspect the pump and its chain for wear and damage. If the oil pump wear is significant or you have any doubts about its condition, the pump should be replaced. Check the drive chain, sprockets and tensioner for wear (see Figure 14.5,a-c).



Figure 14.5,a. The stretch of the oil pump drive chain is determined by measuring the length of the chain section corresponding to 4 links (8 pins) in three or more randomly selected locations. If the amount of stretching of the cat in one area exceeds the permissible Specifications, the chain must be replaced.




Figure 14.5,b. Wrap the oil pump drive chain around each sprocket and measure the sprocket diameter by placing the jaws of the caliper on the chain rollers. If the diameter appears to be less than the specifications, the chain and sprockets must be replaced.




Figure 14.5, c. The wear of the oil pump drive chain tensioner shoe is determined as the depth of the wear groove.


Also check the oil jet and clean it if necessary (see Figure 14.5,g).



Figure 14.5, d. Check that the oil jet is not clogged - its blockage will cause accelerated wear of the timing chains and oil pump, tensioner shoe and dampers.


Installation



6. Fill the voids in the oil pump housing by pouring a small amount of clean engine oil from the oil receiver side and turning the drive shaft.

7. Install the oil pump and new gasket on the cylinder block and tighten the mounting bolts.

8. Tighten the mounting bolts to the torque specified in Specifications. Tighten the screws in a cross pattern to avoid distortion of the mating surface of the lid, making three to four passes.

9. When installing the chain, the crankshaft key should be in the left horizontal position, and the flat of the oil pump drive shaft should be directed upward. Install the oil pump drive chain and sprockets so that the painted links of the drive chain align with the timing marks on the sprockets (see Figure 14.9).

10. Tighten the lower sprocket mounting bolt to the specified torque.

11. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.

12. Fill with oil, start the engine, check the oil pressure and make sure there are no leaks.
