Circuit for checking battery charging current
1. Generator; 2. Voltmeter; 3. Battery; 4. Disconnect the wire; from output B; 5. Ammeter
1. If the battery charging circuit is faulty, perform the following checks before concluding that the generator is faulty.
2. Check the condition and tension of the alternator belt.
3. If signs of wear are detected, replace the belt.
4. Check the tightness of the generator mounting bolts and the belt tension adjusting bolt.
5. Check the generator and voltage regulator wiring, secure fastening and condition of the connectors.
6. Check the fuse links, if you find burnt fuse links, find out the cause and fix it.
7. Start the engine and check the sound made by the generator (a howling or squealing sound indicates bearing wear).
8. Check the density of the electrolyte in the battery.
9. If the density is low, charge the battery (this item does not apply to maintenance-free batteries).
10. Check if the battery is fully charged (if the battery section is faulty, it may overcharge).
11. Check the battery voltage with the engine off. The voltage should be about 12 V.
12. Start the engine and check the voltage again, which should now be between 13.5 and 15.1 V.
13. Turn on the high beam headlights. If the charging system is working properly, the voltage should drop and rise again.
14. If the voltage is higher than the normal charging voltage, replace the voltage regulator.
15. If the voltage is below normal, check the regulator and generator as follows.

16.. Remove the rear cover from the generator, connect terminal F to ground, start the engine, read the voltage on the battery and compare it with the standard.
17. If the voltage is higher than standard, replace the voltage regulator.
18. If the voltage is below standard, check the generator (or if you don't have an ammeter, take it to a car service workshop).
19. The generator is checked according to the diagram (see Fig. Circuit for checking battery charging current).
20. Increase the engine speed to 2000 rpm, measure the current with consumers turned off and on (high beam headlights and the heater fan turned on at maximum speed).
21. If the measured current is less than the standard, repair or replace the generator.
