Removal

1. Disconnect the battery from ground. Raise the vehicle and place it on stands. Remove the transmission (gearbox).

2. Remove the clutch.

3. Mark the position of the flywheel relative to the crankshaft.

4. Loosen the flywheel bolts (torque converter drive disk). Prevent the flywheel from turning by placing a screwdriver against the toothed ring.

5. Carefully remove the flywheel (torque converter drive disk). Some vehicles with automatic transmissions have spacers on either side of the drive disc that are stored with the disc.

Installation

1. Clean the flywheel, check the surface for deep wear marks, rivet grooves, burn marks and scratches. Minor damage can be removed by sanding. Check the flywheel plane for deformation.

2. Clean and inspect the condition of the flywheel/crankshaft joint plane. If the rear crankshaft seal is found to be leaking, replace it before installing the flywheel (torque converter drive disk) replace the seal.

3. Install the flywheel (torque converter drive disk) on the crankshaft. Align the marks made during removal. Before tightening the bolts, lubricate the threads with a locking compound.

4. Secure the flywheel with a screwdriver by the toothed crown and tighten the mounting bolts to the specified torque. Tighten diametrically opposite bolts. Perform the final tightening in three to four stages.

5. Then assembly is carried out in reverse order.
