How to loosen the cylinder head bolts
Tightening order for cylinder head bolts
Attention! Work is carried out on a cold engine.
Removing
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter.
4. Remove the throttle body, injectors and fuel distributor.
5. Remove the suction manifold.
6. Remove the exhaust manifold.
Attention! The intake manifold and exhaust manifolds can be removed together with the cylinder head for final disassembly on the stand.
7. Remove the generator and ignition distributor.
8. Remove the camshaft gear with chain by temporarily resting it on the chain guide.
9. Remove camshafts and pushrods.
10. Loosen the power steering pump mounting bolts and move the pump aside without disconnecting the hoses. Label and disconnect remove other parts (cooling system pipes, cables, hoses and wiring).
11. Loosen the mounting bolt (indicated by an arrow), remove the oil gauge.
12. Remove the 2 chain cover bolts.
13. Loosen the cylinder head bolts by backing out each bolt 1/4 turn at a time. Loosen bolts in sequence (see fig. How to loosen the cylinder head bolts). Inspect the bolts, if deformation or damage is found, replace the bolts.
14. Remove the cylinder head. If the head cannot be removed, then carefully pry the head off by wrapping a screwdriver around the power steering pump bracket.
15. Remove other parts from the head for inspection and thorough cleaning. Cylinder head repair procedures are described in subsection 3.3.6).
Installation
1. Clean the split surfaces of the cylinder head and block.
2. Carefully (making sure that dirt does not get into the holes) scrape off carbon deposits and any remaining gasket material.
3. Check for scoring, chips, gouges and other damage on the split planes of the head and cylinder block. Minor damage can be repaired with a needle file, in case of serious damage, the head or block must be reground.
4. Blow out all channels and openings with compressed air.
5. Reinstall all parts removed when disassembling the head.
6. Place a new gasket on the cylinder block, aligning with the pins.
7. Carefully install the head on the cylinder block without disturbing the position of the gasket. Lubricate the thrust surfaces of the bolt heads with engine oil.
8. Screw the cylinder head bolts back into place by hand. Wrap the short bolts on the side of the intake valves, and the long bolts on the side of the exhaust valves. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown (see fig. Tightening order for cylinder head bolts). At the 2nd and 3rd stages of tightening, the bolts are tightened by 1/4 turn (90°).
9. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order. Fill the cooling system with liquid, fill with oil. Start the engine, check for leaks. Set the ignition timing and test the driving performance of the vehicle.
