Automatic lighting system [Toyota Corona T190]

1. Check the system operation.
  • a) Turn on the ignition.
  • b) Set the light switch to the "AUTO" position.
  • c) Close the light sensor and check that the instrument lighting and headlights turn on.
  • d) Open the light sensor, check that the light is off.
  • d) Turn on the ignition, cover the light sensor. The lighting will turn on.
  • e) Check that the lighting turns off under the following conditions: when the lighting switch is set to the "OFF" position, when the illumination in the sensor area increases, when the driver's door is opened with the ignition off.
  • g) Open the driver's door (ignition off).
  • h) Without closing the door, set the light switch to the "AUTO" position. Check that the light turns on when the ignition is turned on.

2. Adjusting the sensitivity of the light sensor.

The sensitivity of the sensor increases by rotating it counterclockwise, decreases by rotating it counterclockwise.

Models before 1996





Disconnect the connector from the sensor and check the sensor circuit from the wiring harness side according to Table 1.

Models after 1996





1. Disconnect the connector from the sensor and check the sensor circuit on the harness side according to Table 2. If the circuit matches the description, check the circuit with the sensor connected. If the circuit does not match the description, check other system components.



2. Connect the connector to the sensor and check the circuit on the back side of the connector according to Table 3.



Verification conditions:
  • The ignition is on.
  • Light switch in the "AUTO" position.
  • Sufficient illumination. If the circuit is as described but the fault persists, replace the sensor.
