Attention! Models covered in this manual are equipped with an assisted restraint system (SRS), better known as «airbag system». To prevent accidental deployment of airbags, which could result in injury, be sure to deactivate the airbag system before working near components of the airbag system (see chapter 12).
Warning. To avoid damage to the PCM when subjected to electrostatic discharge, handle the PCM by the chassis only. Do not touch the electrical contacts when removing and installing. If possible, ground yourself to the vehicle using a grounding strap, available from computer stores.
Note. The PCM is located in the passenger compartment behind the storage compartment (glove box) to the right of the heater fan housing.
1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery (see paragraph 1 of chapter 5).
2. Remove the storage compartment assembly.
3. Disconnect the PCM electrical connectors (pic. 14.3).
Pic. 14.3. To remove the PCM, disconnect the electrical connectors...
4. Remove the top and bottom nuts of the PCM support bracket (pic. 14.4) and carefully remove the PCM.
Pic. 14.4.... unscrew the top and bottom nuts securing the outer bracket (PCM shown for Toyota Highlander, bracket shape and nut locations are slightly different on Lexot RX models)
Warning. Avoid exposing the module to static electricity to prevent damage to the module. Before working on the PCM, if possible, ground yourself to the vehicle body using a grounding strap. Use a special antistatic pad to store the removed PCM.
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
