1. Brake indicator
This indicator has the following functions:
Parking brake indicator.
If the indicator is on, check that the parking brake is fully released (manual) brake. The indicator should turn off.
Brake Fluid Level Too Low Warning (European models) and low vacuum warning (vacuum) (for vehicles with diesel engines).
If this indicator comes on while driving, slow down and pull over to the side of the road. Then carefully stop the car. At the same time, do not forget that the braking distance and the force on the brake pedal can be much greater than usual. The problem may be somewhere in the braking system. Check the brake fluid level in the transparent reservoir.
Note: To ensure that the parking brake is not causing the light to come on, check that the parking brake is fully released.
If the brake fluid level is too low...
Test the brakes in a safe place by pulling away and braking.
- If you are satisfied that the brakes are still functioning reasonably, drive carefully to a workshop and have the vehicle repaired. Continued normal driving is dangerous.
- If the action of the brakes is unsatisfactory, tow the car for repair.
If the brake fluid level is correct...
For vehicles with petrol engines, have the warning system checked by a workshop «Toyota».
For vehicles with diesel engines (low vacuum warning).
Check brake booster (see the relevant section of the manual for instructions).
- If you find that the amplifier is working properly, have the warning system checked by a service center «Toyota».
- If the performance of the brake booster is unsatisfactory, have the vehicle towed for repair. Continued normal driving is dangerous.
2. Charging current control indicator
When the indicator light is on, it indicates that the battery is low.
If the indicator lights up while driving, stop, turn off the engine and find out the cause. First of all, check that the alternator V-belt is properly tensioned.
- If the V-belt is loose or torn, the alternator recharges the battery insufficiently or does not charge it at all.
- If the V-belt is OK, there is a problem somewhere in the charging circuit.
The ignition of the engine is achieved as long as the battery has not yet been discharged. Turn off unnecessary electrical consumers (air conditioning, fan, radio, etc.) and drive to the service station.
Do not continue driving if the alternator V-belt is loose or damaged.
3. Oil pressure control indicator
This indicator signals that the oil pressure has become too low.
If it flashes or lights up while driving, pull over immediately and stop the engine. Check the oil level first; he could shrink. (For instructions on checking the oil level and adding oil, see the relevant sections of the Manual).
If the oil level is too low and the indicator lights up while the engine is running despite adding oil, stop the engine immediately and contact your nearest workshop.
Under no circumstances continue to drive the vehicle - even for a short distance - as this could cause serious engine damage.
It may be that the control indicator flashes briefly at idle after full braking. It is also not a cause for concern if this pattern repeats shortly after accelerating. However, you should check the oil level as soon as possible so that it is not too low.
4. Fuel reserve warning indicator
This indicator comes on when the fuel tank is almost empty. Refuel as soon as possible.
5. Door control indicator
This indicator remains lit until all side and rear doors are fully closed.
6. Warning indicator for choke button
This indicator comes on when the ignition switch is in the «ON» and the choke button is pulled out. If the light is on, after the engine has warmed up, fully push the throttle button in. For instructions on how to use the choke rod button, see the appropriate section of the Instructions.
7. Fuel filter water level warning indicator (vehicles with diesel engines)
Lighting of the indicator warns that the level of separated water in the fuel filter has reached the prescribed height.
If the indicator lights up, immediately drain the water (see relevant section).
Do not drive with the warning light on. Continued driving with water accumulated in the filter may cause fuel pump malfunctions.
8. Warning when the brake lining wear limit is reached
Your disc brake pads have reached the wear limit, which can also be expressed in creaking and squealing sounds while driving. If the warning light comes on or you hear noises while driving, have the brake pads checked and replaced by a workshop immediately.
How to check if all control indicators are working properly (except for the fuel reserve warning indicator):
- 1. Apply the handbrake.
- 2. Open one of the side doors. The door indicator should come on.
- 3. Close the side door. The control indicator of doors should go out.
- 4. Pull out the choke button.
- 5. Set the ignition switch to position «ON», do not start the engine.
All control indicators, except for the door control indicator and the fuel reserve warning indicator, should illuminate.
If one of the control indicators does not function, then either the indicator bulb has burned out, or the corresponding electrical circuit needs repair. Determine and eliminate the cause of this as soon as possible.
