Note: Headlights must be adjusted correctly. Incorrectly adjusted headlights can blind oncoming and passing drivers and poorly illuminate the road, which can lead to an accident. Headlight aim should be checked annually and after each headlight/bulb removal/installation. The procedure described below is only a temporary measure to ensure preliminary headlight aiming. Professional adjustment can be performed in a specialized workshop.

Models produced in 1996 and 1997

1. These models have two adjustment screws for each headlight, located behind the headlight housing (see Figure 16.1).

Models produced since 1998

2. These models have only one adjustment screw for each headlight, located behind the headlight housing (see Figure 16.1). On 1998-2000 models, the adjusting screw is turned using a wrench or socket head. In models produced since 2001, the screw of the gear drive of the adjustment mechanism is turned using a Phillips-head screwdriver (see Figure 16.2).

3. There are several methods for adjusting headlight beams, the simplest of which requires paper tape, a clean, light-colored wall, and a flat, horizontal surface.

4. Stick pieces of tape vertically on the wall in three places corresponding to the center line of the car and the centers of the headlights (see Figure 16.4).

5. Apply horizontal pieces of tape at a height equal to the height of the headlight centers from the road.

Note: For this, it is most convenient to first stop the car a few centimeters from the wall.

6. Roll the car away from the wall at a distance (from the headlights to the wall) 7.6 meters. The fuel tank should be half full, the car should not be overloaded.

7. Starting with the low beam headlights, mark the maximum light intensity zone two inches away (about 50 mm) below the horizontal line and at the same distance to the side of the vertical lines (to the intended shoulder so as not to blind oncoming traffic). Adjustment in horizontal and vertical directions is made by turning the corresponding screw in one direction or another.

Note: Models produced since 1998 are adjustable only in the vertical direction.

8. With the high beams on, adjust the maximum intensity zone vertically so that it is located directly below the horizontal line.

Note: It may not be possible to precisely match the maximum intensity zones of the low and high beams. When making a compromise adjustment, preference should be given to the low beam, as it is used more frequently and, accordingly, has a greater impact on traffic safety.

9. If you have any doubts about the correct headlight adjustment, contact your dealership or a specialized workshop for assistance as soon as possible.
