Removal



1. Remove the intercooler (see paragraph 14) and top engine covers.

2. Unscrew the nuts securing the clamps of the injector feed pipe distribution system and release the pipes from the distribution system, then unscrew the union nuts and remove the injector feed fuel lines from the injector connections and the fuel rail. Wrap or plug any holes in the pipes, injectors and fuel rail with adhesive tape (see Figure 10.2, a-g).

Note: Toyota recommends that when replacing the fuel rail and/or injectors, you also replace the high-pressure lines that feed the injectors.


3. Unscrew the bolt securing the fuel inlet line (tube) to the intake manifold housing, then unscrew the union nuts and disconnect the tube from the fuel injection pump and fuel rail fittings (see Figure 10.3).

Wrap with tape or plug the resulting holes.

Note: Toyota recommends that when replacing the injection pump or fuel rail, you also replace the high-pressure fuel line.


Installation



4. Install the high-pressure fuel lines in the reverse order of removal. Be sure to tighten the union nuts to the specified torque. Since a socket head is not suitable here, use a special "crow's foot" adapter (see Figure 10.4), or a socket wrench.
