Removing
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
2. Remove equalizing chamber (see subsection 5.11.5). This procedure is quite complicated, so read the instructions in this manual carefully, label all hoses and wires.
3. Remove wires from spark plugs.
4. Label and disconnect all hoses and wires from the cover and set aside.
5. Turn away bolts of covers of heads of cylinders. The picture on the left shows 11 cylinder head bolts for the 3.0L engine, the picture on the right shows the cylinder head bolts for the 3.4L engine.
6. Remove covers. If the cover does not yield, knock it off with a hammer through the soft spacer, or carefully pry open the seal with a spatula.
Installation
1. Thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces of the cover and cylinder head, remove traces of oil.
2. Apply sealant to the half-round plugs and install them on the cylinder head, apply sealant to the flats of the plugs. Sealant application points on 3.0L engines are marked (1).
3. Apply sealant to the half-round plugs and install them on the cylinder head, apply sealant to the flats of the plugs. The places where the sealant is applied on the 3.4 liter engine are indicated by hatching.
4. Lay a new gasket on the cover, install the cover, sealing washers and tighten the nuts. On the 3.4L engine, replace the spark plug housing seals.
5. Tighten the cover bolts evenly to the specified torque in 3-4 steps.
6. Install other parts, start the engine and check for leaks.
