Attention! The models described in this manual are illuminated with an auxiliary restraint system (SPS), better known as «airbag system». To prevent accidental deployment of airbags, which could result in injury, be sure to deactivate the airbag system before working near components of the airbag system (see chapter 12).
Note. Highlander models 2004 and later have a rear heater assembly with an electric blower fan. This electric fan can be serviced in the same way as the front electric fan. For a description of the procedure for removing and replacing the rear blower fan, refer to paragraph 11.
1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery (see paragraph 1 of chapter 5).
2. The electric blower is located under the front panel, below the storage compartment («glover»).
3. Remove the right lower section of the front panel facing (just below the storage compartment), in the presence of (see chapter 11).
4. To remove the fan, remove the screws securing the fan and lower the unit from the case (pic. 9.4).

5. If the motor is being replaced, relocate the fan to the new motor before installation (pic. 9.5).

6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Check for correct operation.
