Caution! The air conditioning system is constantly under high pressure. Never disconnect refrigerant lines or remove system components without first releasing the refrigerant from the system. Releasing refrigerant from the air conditioning system must be performed by the dealer's service department or an automotive air conditioning specialist using a suitable service station designed for releasing/processing refrigerant and meeting environmental protection legislation requirements. Always wear protective goggles when disconnecting refrigerant lines!
Caution: The receiver drier should be replaced every time the compressor is replaced.
1. Relieve the refrigerant by contacting a car air conditioning specialist.
2. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery (see paragraph 1 of chapter 5).
3. Remove the drive belt from the compressor (see chapter 1).
4. Remove the lower protection from under the engine compartment (if available) (see chapter 2).
5. On 2003 and earlier Lexus models, remove the alternator (see chapter 5).
6. Disconnect the electrical connector and disconnect the refrigerant lines (Fig. 14.6).

8. If installing a new or reconditioned compressor, follow the proper oil level instructions supplied with the compressor prior to installation.
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Replace all sealing rings with new ones specially designed for this purpose and lubricate them with compressor oil.
10. Have the system evacuated, refilled with refrigerant, and checked for leaks. This should be done by an automotive air conditioning specialist.
