Attention! Wait until the engine has completely cooled down before starting this procedure.
1. The coolant temperature gauge system consists of a temperature gauge on the instrument panel and a sensor mounted on the engine. On all models engine coolant temperature sensor (EATING) (see chapter 6), which is the source of information for the powertrain control module (RSM). Sends a signal to the PCM, which in turn controls the temperature gauge.
2. If there is an indication of overheating, first check the coolant level in the system (see chapter 1) and the correct composition of the coolant (see paragraph 2). In addition, before admitting that the temperature gauge is faulty, refer to paragraph «troubleshooting» at the beginning of this guide.
3. Start the engine and warm it up for 10 minutes. If the temperature gauge needle does not move out of position C, check the wiring harness connections to the instrument panel 4. If there is a problem with the ECT sensor, the engine maintenance warning light may come on «Service Engine Soon», and the sensor or related electrical circuit will require repair (see chapter 6).
