Models before 1996

Check the conductivity between the connector pins according to the table.
Models after 1996
If the conductivity is not as described, replace the switch.
Checking the intermittent operation mode of the cleaner
Models before 1996
1. Set the switch to the "INT" position.
2. Set the interval regulator (some models) to the "FAST" position.
3 Connect the "+" of the battery to terminal "B18", "-" to terminal "B16".
4. Connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to terminal "B7", the negative lead to "B16" and check that the voltmeter shows the battery voltage.
5. After connecting pin "4" to pin "16" of the connector, connect pin "4" to pin "18".
Check that the voltage shown by the voltmeter drops to 0 and recovers to battery voltage within the following time:
If the switch does not operate as described, replace it.
Models after 1996
1. Set the switch to the "INT" position.
2. Set the interval control to the "FAST" position.
3. Connect the "+" of the battery to terminal "10", "-" to terminal "7".
4. Connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to terminal "3" and the negative lead to terminal "7" and check that the voltmeter shows the battery voltage.
5. After connecting pin "11" to pin "10" of the connector, connect pin "10" to pin "7".
Check that the voltage shown by the voltmeter drops to 0 and recovers to battery voltage after 3.3±1 seconds.
If the switch does not operate as described, replace it.
Checking the operation of the washer switch
1. Connect the "+" of the battery to terminal "B18", to terminal "B16" (in models after 1996 - to terminals "10" and "7").
2. Connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to terminal "B7" and the negative lead to "B16" (in models after 1996 - to terminals "3" and "7").
3. While pressing the washer switch, check that the voltage on the voltmeter changes from 0 to the battery voltage approximately 0.5 seconds after switching on and drops to 0 2.5 seconds after switching off.
Checking the windshield wiper motor
Note: The terminal numbers in brackets are for models produced after 1996.
1. Low speed: Connect the "+" of the battery to the terminal "3" ("1") of the connector, to the terminal "1" ("5") and check that the electric motor runs at low speed.
2. High speed: Connect the "+" of the battery to the "2" ("4") terminal of the connector, "-" to the "1" ("5") terminal, and check that the electric motor runs at high speed.
3. Checking the stop in the extreme position:
- a) In low speed mode, stop the electric motor in any position except the extreme one by disconnecting the wire from terminal "1".
- b) Connect terminals "1" and "3".
- c) Connect the "+" of the battery to terminal "2", the battery to terminal "5", check that the electric motor turns on again and stops in the extreme position.
Note: The procedure is described for models produced since 1996. For earlier models, the testing procedure is similar.
Checking the operation of the rear window wiper motor
1. Connect the "+" of the battery to terminal "1" of the electric motor connector, and the "-" to terminal "3" and to the ground of the electric motor. Check the operation of the engine.
2. Disconnect the negative wire from terminal "3" and check that the electric motor has turned off in the extreme position of the wiper.
If the motor operation is different from the description, replace it.
Checking the operation of the rear window wiper motor (station wagon)
1 Connect the "+" of the battery to terminals "1" and "3" of the electric motor connector, and "-" to terminal "4". Check the operation of the engine.
2. Disconnect the positive wire from terminal "1" and check that the electric motor has switched off in the extreme position of the wiper.
If the motor operation is different from the description, replace it.
Checking the intermittent operation of the rear window wiper motor
Connect the "+" of the battery to terminal "1" of the electric motor connector, "-" to terminal "2" and to the electric motor ground. Check that the engine runs intermittently at intervals of approximately 9...15 seconds.
Checking the washer motor (models without rear window wiper)
Connect the "+" of the battery to terminal "2" of the electric motor connector, "-" to terminal "1" and check the operation of the electric motor.
Checking the washer motor (models with rear window wiper)
1. Connect the "+" of the battery to terminal 2 of the electric motor connector, "-" to terminal "1" and check the operation of the electric motor.
2. Move the negative wire from terminal "1" to terminal "3" and check the operation of the electric motor.
Caution: Do not allow the electric motor to be turned on for more than 20 seconds, otherwise the winding may burn out.
