Note: Some 3S-GE engines have the shims located inside the tappet, making them difficult to remove.

Note: Arrange the tappets and adjusting washers in the order they are installed.

2. Remove the valves.
- a) Using a suitable tool, compress the valve spring and remove the two crackers.

- b) Remove the following parts:
- (1) Spring plate;
- (2) Valve spring;
- (3) Valve;
- (4) Saddle spring.

Note: Place the valves, valve springs, spring seats and spring retainers in reverse order.

- c) Using long-nose pliers, remove the valve stem seals.
Note: Be careful not to scratch the cylinder wall of the tappet, as one scratch will prevent the tappet from seating or the tappet will jam.

3. (2C, 2C-T) Remove the combustion chamber inserts.
4. (5E-FE) Remove the wiring harness protection bracket.
5. (5E-FE) Remove engine bracket No.1 and No.2.
6. (5E-FE) Remove the segment plug.
7. (5E-FEJ Remove the camshaft bearing cap of cylinder No.4.
