Disassembling the cylinder head [Toyota Land Cruiser J70]

1. (L only) Remove the camshaft oil seal housing and gasket by unscrewing the four bolts.



2. (L only) Remove the camshaft.

a) Turn the camshaft so that the camshaft keyway faces upward.



b) Uniformly loosen and remove the nine bearing cap bolts in several passes, each in the sequence shown in the illustration.



c) Remove the five bearing caps and the camshaft.



d) Remove ten liners from the bearing caps and from the cylinder head.

Note: Place bearing caps and shells in correct order.




3. Remove the tappets with adjusting washers.



Note: Arrange the lifters in the order of removal.

4. Remove the valves.

a) Using the special tool, compress the valve spring and remove the two crackers.



b) Remove the spring plate, valve spring and spring seat



Note: Arrange the removed parts according to the kits.




c) Remove the permanent caps.



5. Remove the 4 combustion chamber spacers and adjusting shims using the special tool.



Note: Position combustion chamber spacers (and gaskets) in the order of their removal.
