- Disconnect battery.
- Drain the coolant.
- Remove the injector tubes, injectors and fuel supply pipe.
- Disconnect the power cable from the intake manifold. Remove the 4 rubber tips from the spark plugs, unscrew the 4 nuts, remove the current bus and unscrew the four glow plugs. The fastening of the spark plugs is shown on the right side of Figure 299.

- Remove the timing belt as described in the previous chapter. Also remove the camshaft gear.
- Disconnect the throttle cable mechanism.
- Remove the coolant drain pipe and heater pipe. This also releases the bracket for lifting the engine. There is a gasket under the tube flange. Disconnect the hose from one end.
- Unscrew the middle cover from the front of the engine (32) toothed belt in Figure 299.
- Remove the 6 nuts and sealing washers from the cylinder head cover and remove the cover and gasket.
- Remove the front engine lift bracket.
- Evenly crosswise in the sequence shown in Figure 300, unscrew the 18 cylinder head bolts.
Pic. 300. Remove the cylinder head bolts in numerical order. When tightening, proceed in reverse order.
- Lift the cylinder head off the pins in the cylinder head and place it on the workbench. A tightly seated cylinder head can be separated from the cylinder block by using a screwdriver inserted between the cylinder head and the cylinder block boss. Do not damage the cylinder head when doing this. Remove traces of old seal. Do not allow any old gasket residue to get into the cylinder block.
