Note. Vehicle manufacturers Toyota and Lexus do not publish data on resistance values for the primary and secondary circuits of the ignition coils/control units used on these models.
1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery (see paragraphs 1 and 3).
2. Remove the engine cover (see paragraph «Intake manifold - removal and installation» in chapter 2).
Models with a four-cylinder engine
3. Disconnect the electrical connector on the ignition coil, then remove the coil mounting bolt (pic. 7.3).
Pic. 7.3. To disconnect the ignition coil from the cylinder head cover on a four-cylinder engine, disconnect the electrical connector (A), and then unscrew the bolt securing the coil (P)
4. Pull the coil out of the cylinder head cover straight up and then out (pic. 7.4).
Pic. 7.4. To remove the ignition coil on a four-cylinder engine, pull it straight up and out. Before installing the coil, make sure that the cover is (A) is in good condition and properly located
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Models with VG engine
6. If you are going to remove/replace the ignition coil on the rear cylinder head, remove the upper intake manifold (see paragraph «Intake manifold - removal and installation» in chapter 2).
7. Disconnect the electrical connector on the ignition coil, and then remove the coil mounting bolt (pic. 7.7).
Pic. 7.7. To disconnect the ignition coil from the cylinder head cover on a VG engine, press the locking tab (A) and disconnect the electrical connector, and then unscrew the bolt securing the coil
8. Pull the coil out of the cylinder head cover straight up and then out (pic. 7.4).
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
