1. Check the throttle body.
  • a) Check the smooth operation of the damper drive.

  • c) Turn off the engine.

2. Check the throttle position sensor.
  • a) Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
  • b) (Models with throttle damper) Disconnect the vacuum hose from the throttle actuator mechanism and apply vacuum to the mechanism.
  • c) Insert a flat feeler gauge with a thickness of 0.50 or 0.70 mm (3S-FE, 3S-GE, 4S-FE, 5E-FE); 0.40 or 0.90 mm (4A-FE, 7A-FE) between the throttle stop adjusting screw and the lever.

  • d) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the corresponding terminals of the sensor connector at different throttle positions (see table).

If the resistance value is outside the specified values, adjust or replace the throttle position sensor.
  • e) (Models with throttle opening mechanism) Connect the sensor connector.
  • 3. (Models with throttle damper) Check the operation of the throttle valve opening mechanism.
  • c) Start and warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
  • b) Connect the tachometer (see page 23).
  • c) Check the idle speed. Idle speed: 700+50 rpm.
  • d) Disconnect the vacuum hose from the throttle actuator and plug its end.

  • d) Maintain the rotation speed at about 2500 rpm.
  • e) Release the throttle valve
  • g) Make sure that the engine speed (set by the throttle valve opening mechanism) lies within the range of 1200-1800 rpm (with the cooling system fan off) Otherwise, adjust the throttle opening mechanism.
  • c) Adjust the rotation speed set by the throttle valve opening mechanism by turning the adjusting screw of the mechanism.

Nominal speed (with the cooling system fan off): 1400 rpm.

  • i) Reconnect the vacuum hose.
  • 4. Disconnect the tachometer.
  • 5 (5E-FE) Check the operation of the pneumatic valve.
  • a) Make sure that air flows from "B" to "A" without resistance.
  • b) Make sure that air passes with difficulty from "A" to "B".

If a fault is detected, replace the pneumatic valve.
