195 = nominal tire width in mm
/70 = ratio of the profile height to its width in percent (in this case, this ratio is 70%). If there is no data on this relation (e.g. 155 R13), then we are talking about «normal» relation. It is 82% for radial tires.
H = speed class, H: up to 210 km/h (new tires do not always have this data)
R = radial
14 = wheel bore in inches
89 = load index
Attention: If the designation M + S is between the numbers 14 and 89, then we are talking about tires with a winter profile.
H = allowable speed class.
The speed class is at the end of the tire size designation. It is valid for both summer and winter tyres.
Permissible speed class
Tire manufacturing date
The date of manufacture of the tire is printed on the tire in the form of a manufacturer's code.
For example: DOT CUL2 UM8 312 < TUBELESS
DOT = Department of Transportation (in the USA - Department of Transportation)
CU = manufacturer designation
L2 = tire size
UM8 = bus version
312 = date of manufacture = 31st working week 1992
< = character indicating decade (1990 to 1999)
TUBELESS = tubeless (TUBETYPE = tubular tire)
