Attention.
- Gasoline is highly flammable.
- Therefore, additional precautions should be taken when working on any part of the fuel system. Do not smoke or allow open flames or unprotected light fixtures near the work area. Do not work in rooms where gas appliances are present (e.g. water heaters or clothes dryers). Since gasoline is a carcinogen (contributes to the development of cancer), try not to allow fuel to come into contact with exposed areas of the body. Wear fuel resistant gloves. If fuel comes into contact with the skin, the affected area should be washed immediately with soap and water. Wipe up spilled fuel immediately and do not store fuel-soaked rags where they could ignite. The fuel system is under constant pressure. Therefore, before disconnecting the fuel lines, it is imperative to relieve the fuel pressure in the system first. Wear safety goggles when doing any work on the fuel system. Keep a class B fire extinguisher handy at all times.
1. Remove the fuel filler cap to relieve pressure in the fuel tank.
2. Remove rear seat cushion 1 (see chapter 11).
3. Remove the cover of the technological hole in the floor for access to the fuel pump in the block with the fuel gauge sensor (pic. 5.2).
4. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector (pic. 5.3).
5. Start the engine and let it run until it stops, then turn off the ignition.
6. Before working on the fuel system, disconnect the ground wire from the battery (see paragraph 1 of chapter 5).
7. The fuel system is now depressurized and you can safely disconnect fuel line fittings/couplings. But even if there is no pressure in the system in front of the disconnected fitting, it is recommended to wrap it with rags, which should absorb the fuel that will inevitably flow out.
