Removing
Chock the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from moving. Raise the rear of the car and place it on stands. Release the parking brake lever and place the shift lever in neutral.
Pic. 10.10. Removing the bolts securing the rear universal joint of the propeller shaft to the flange of the main reverse gear
Turn out nuts and bolts of fastening of the rear universal joint of the cardan shaft to the flange of the main reverse gear (see fig. 10.10). To access the nuts and bolts, rotate the cardan shaft. Use a soft wire to secure the back of the driveshaft, do not let it hang on the support bearing.
Use a hammer and chisel to knock out the collar of the nut from the groove of the shaft of the main reverse gear flange.
Using a special tool, secure the main reverse gear flange from turning and unscrew the nut of its fastening.
Remove the flange. If it cannot be removed manually, use a two-arm puller.
Remove the cuff using a flathead screwdriver. When removing, do not scratch the cuff insertion slot.
Installation
Clear the groove for installing the cuff. Lubricate the outer surface and the working edge of the cuff with oil.
With a tubular mandrel with an outer diameter slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the collar, install the sealing collar into the groove. Check that the cuff is installed without distortion and at the same depth as before.
Install the main reverse gear flange and secure it with a nut, tightening it with an initial torque of 108 Nm.
Use a torque wrench to measure the rear final drive flange pre-torque. If the torque is less than 0.6–0.8 Nm, then tighten the nut, each time increasing the tightening torque by 12 Nm, but the final tightening torque should not exceed 235 Nm. If the torque of the nut has reached 235 Nm and the turning torque of the rear final drive flange has not been reached, replace the bearing spacer in the final reverse gear.
After reaching the required torque of turning the flange with a hammer and a chisel, drive the collar of the nut into the groove of the final drive shaft.
Connect the propeller shaft rear universal joint with the main reverse gear flange, aligning the marks made before removal, and tighten the nuts and bolts to 74 Nm.
Check the oil level in the rear final drive, top up if necessary.
