Removal the thermostat (3S-FE, 3S-GE, 5E-FE, 4A-FE, 4S-FE, 7A-FE)
1 - thermostat, 2 - gasket, 3 - inlet pipe, 4 - coolant temperature sensor connector, 5 - nut (M3=9.3 Nm).
Removal the thermostat
Note:
- Do not remove the thermostat unless necessary.
- When removing the thermostat, the engine tends to overcool, so do not remove the thermostat even if the engine overheats. The optimum operating temperature of the engine is about 95°C.

Removal the thermostat (2C, 2C-T).
1. Drain the coolant (see section "Maintenance and general check and adjustment procedures").
2. (4A-FE, 7A-FE) Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor connector.
3. (3S-GE) Remove the generator bracket.
4. Remove the inlet pipe and thermostat by unscrewing two nuts or two bolts, remove the gasket from the thermostat.
Checking the Thermostat
Note: as a rule, numbers are marked on the thermostat housing indicating the temperature at which the valve begins to open
1. Lower the thermostat into the container with water and gradually heat it.
2. Make sure that the thermostat valve opening temperature is between 80-84°C. Otherwise, replace the thermostat.
3. Check the valve lift value, which should be at least 8 mm (or more) at 95°C. Otherwise, replace the thermostat.

4. Make sure that the valve is held closed by the spring when the thermostat is cold. If not, replace the thermostat.
Installing a thermostat
1. Install the thermostat into the inlet pipe cavity on a new gasket. (4A-FE thermostat type A)
- a) Deflect the thermostat bypass valve to the specified angle, as shown in the figure, and install the thermostat into the cavity of the inlet pipe.

(4A-FE thermostat type B and 7A-FE)
- a) Install the thermostat bypass valve in line with the top side of the mounting stud as shown in the figure.

(3S-FE, 3S-GE, 4S-FE, 5E-FE)
- a) Install a new gasket on the thermostat.

- 6) Align the thermostat bypass valve with the tab and insert the thermostat.
Note: The bypass valve can be installed within 5° either side of the specified position.

(2C, 2C-T)
- a) Install a new gasket on the thermostat, then install the thermostat into the block with the bypass valve opening facing up.

2. Install the coolant inlet pipe, securing it with two nuts and bolts. Tightening torque - 9 Nm
3. (4A-FE, 7A-FE) Connect the coolant temperature sensor connector
4.(3S-GE) Install the generator bracket.
5. Fill the system with coolant (see "Maintenance and General Checking and Adjusting Procedures" section).
6. Start the engine and check for coolant leaks.
