In case you need to tow your vehicle, we recommend that you contact service providers that provide this service.

Proper equipment ensures that your vehicle will not be damaged during towing. The relevant services know all the necessary regulations for proper towing.

If your vehicle is towed incorrectly, it may be damaged. Although most drivers know the proper precautions when towing, it is still possible to make a mistake. To avoid the risk of damage to your vehicle, you must ensure that the following precautions are followed. Show this page to the towing driver if necessary.

Precautions when towing

1. When towing, always use a reliable chain system and strictly comply with the relevant provisions of the current traffic regulations.

Manual transmission

Towing with rear wheels on the road: Release the parking brake.

Towing with the front wheels on the road: Set the gearshift lever to neutral and turn the ignition key to the "ACC" position, since the steering wheel lock is not enough to hold the front wheels in a straight line when towing. If the front wheels are damaged, use a special dolly (see middle picture).

Automatic transmission

Towing with rear wheels on the road: Release the parking brake.

Towing with four wheels on the road: The vehicle can only be towed front to front. Towing at speeds above 45 km/h or over a distance of 80 km is prohibited. Before towing, check the fluid level in the automatic transmission. If it is lower than the "NOTE" line on the dipstick, add more liquid or use a tow truck.

Under no circumstances should you tow a vehicle with an automatic transmission backwards or forwards on the road, as this can cause serious damage to the transmission. If your vehicle must be towed backwards, always use a special dolly under the front wheels (see middle picture).

Towing in case of emergency

In case of emergency, secure the towing cable to one of the towing eyes under the front of the vehicle.

Use a towing rope or chain only when the vehicle is towed on a paved road. The driver must be in the vehicle to turn and brake. If the engine is turned off, the power brakes and power steering do not work. The effort required to brake and turn the steering wheel will be significantly greater than usual. Towing in this manner is not possible if the wheels, axles, transmission, steering or brake system are damaged.

Before towing, release the parking brake and set the transmission to idle (neutral) or, respectively, to the "N" position. The ignition key must be in the "ACC" position (engine off, or "ON" (the engine is running).
