Engine 5E-FE in-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve overhead camshaft. Engine displacement 5E-FE 1.5 liters. Cylinder numbering is from the crankshaft pulley.

Engine operating order:1-3-4-2.

Crankshaft 5-bearing with 8 counterweights installed on the continuation of the crankshaft cheeks, designed to relieve the main bearings from the action of centrifugal forces. The crankshaft has holes for supplying oil to the main and connecting rod bearings and other elements.

Cylinder head made of aluminum alloy. Spark plugs are located in the center of the combustion chambers.

The design of the intake manifold, with four independent long channels, allows the use of the inertial supercharging effect.

The exhaust and intake valve springs are made of special carbon steel and have a variable pitch, which helps reduce the likelihood of resonance.

Camshaft the exhaust valves are driven from the crankshaft by a toothed belt, and the intake valve shaft is driven from the exhaust camshaft by gears. The camshafts have 5 bearing journals. The journals, cams and gears of the camshaft drive are lubricated with oil, which enters through an oil channel located in the center of the shaft. The clearance in the valve drive is adjusted by replacing the adjusting washers in the valve tappets. The adjusting washers can be replaced without removing the camshafts. The timing belt cover consists of 2 parts. The technological hole in cover No.1 provides the ability to adjust the tension of the timing belt.

Pistons made of aluminum alloy.

Piston pins - "floating" type.

Compression rings: the upper compression ring is made of stainless steel, the lower compression ring is made of cast iron.

Oil scraper ring consists of two scrapers and an expander. The oil scraper ring removes excess oil from the cylinder walls, preventing it from entering the combustion chamber.

Cylinder block cast iron. Wall length (forming) each cylinder is approximately 2 times the piston stroke, the upper part of the cylinder block is covered by the cylinder head, and the lower part of the block forms the engine crankcase, in which the crankshaft is installed. The cylinder block has a cooling jacket through which coolant circulates.

Oil pan is bolted to the cylinder block. The oil pan is stamped from sheet steel. A baffle plate inside the oil pan keeps enough oil in place even when the vehicle is tilted. The baffle plate also prevents oil waves from being created when the vehicle is braked abruptly.
