The charging system includes the generator, a built-in voltage regulator, a battery low charge indicator, the battery itself, a fuse, and the wiring that connects these components. The system is designed to maintain a full battery charge and supply electricity to all consumers. The generator is driven by a belt.

The voltage regulator is designed to maintain the generator voltage within specified limits. It prevents voltage surges, circuit overloads, etc. at peak load voltage values.

The charging system does not generally require any regular maintenance, but regular checks of the drive belt, battery, and wiring should be carried out in accordance with the schedule given in chapter 1A or 1B.

The battery emergency charging indicator, located on the instrument panel, comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and should go out immediately after the engine starts. If the indicator does not go out after starting the engine, there is a malfunction in the charging system. Some models are also equipped with voltmeters. If the voltmeter shows an abnormally high or low voltage, the charging system should be checked (see paragraph 11).

When making any connections to the vehicle's network, remember the following:
  • When connecting the generator, observe the polarity of the terminals.
  • Before performing electric arc welding on a vehicle, disconnect the wiring from the generator and battery.
  • Never start the engine with an external charger connected.
  • When using an external charger, always disconnect both cables from the battery.
  • When the engine is running, be careful not to allow hanging clothing, hands, or hair to get caught in the rotating generator belt.
  • Since the generator is directly connected to the battery, if they are short-circuited or overloaded, an electric arc or ignition can occur, leading to a fire.
