Idle air control valve (IAC)

Note: The minimum idle speed is preset at the factory and does not require adjustment under normal operating conditions. However, if the throttle body has been replaced or you suspect that the minimum RPM value has been reset (for example, due to the fact that the idle speed adjustment screw was unscrewed when replacing the throttle body), contact your dealership's service center.

Removal

1. The engine idle speed is controlled by the idle speed control valve. (see figure 14.1, a, b).

Figure 14.1,a. Location of the idle air control valve (IAC) (shown by the arrow) in models produced before 2000.

Figure 14.1,b. Location of the idle air control valve (IAC) (shown by the arrow) in models produced since 2001.

The throttle valve controls the amount of air that is supplied to the intake manifold, bypassing the throttle valve. The valve itself is controlled by the ECM module in accordance with the engine load (air conditioning, steering) and operating conditions (cold or warm engine).

2. Remove the throttle body (see chapter 4A).

3. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the regulator valve and gasket.

Installation

4. Installation of the idle speed control valve is carried out in the reverse order of its removal; don't forget to install a new gasket, however.
