The heater control rods should be replaced if the control levers move with difficulty and unevenly.

Removal



Loosen the screws securing the heater trim in the area of the control levers.



Remove 4 screws and remove the heater control levers.

Remove the rods from the drive levers and take them out. To do this, use a screwdriver to remove the spring fasteners of the rod casing and remove the rods.

Installation



First connect the control rods with the heater control levers. Insert both rods into the stops on the levers. Install the spring clips and secure them.

Install the heater control levers.

Connect the rods to the drive levers, securing the casings.

Adjustment





Set the fresh air flap control lever handle to the position "Frischluft" ("Fresh air").





Press the drive lever at the heater casing away from the rod support until it stops. Hook the rod onto the lever and secure the casing with a bracket.

Move the air distributor regulator all the way to the position "Kopfgaumbeleiftung" ("Air supply to the upper part of the cabin").

Press the air distributor flap drive lever until it stops and secure the rod to it.

Set the thermostat lever all the way to the "Kalt" ("Cold") position.



Press the thermostat damper until it stops and secure the rod to it.





Set the drive lever and the heater valve to the "cold" position. In this position connect the rod to it. Fix the rod casing with a clamp.

Check the installation of the levers. The drive levers should move easily and without jamming in their entire range. Otherwise, adjust the lever drive.
