Starter start circuit
If there is a defect in the magnetic starter, the starter gear does not engage with the ring gear of the engine flywheel. This prevents the engine from starting.
Examination
Remove starter.
Starter without gear
Starter with gearbox
Disconnect the exciter wire from terminal C.
Connect the electromagnetic starter with a wire to the storage battery according to fig. G-5432. The starter drive gear should move forward.
Attention: Close the circuit no later than 5 sec. Otherwise, the starter winding may burn out.
Disconnect the ground wire from terminal C. The starter drive gear must remain in the extended position. Otherwise, replace the starter.
Disconnect ground wire from starter housing. The starter drive gear should retract. Otherwise, replace the starter.
Removing
Remove the two mounting bolts and the starter wire terminal from the starter housing and remove the starter. On fig. G-5430 shows starter without gear.
Installation
Install the magnetic starter on the starter.
Check the starter as described above.
Install the starter.
