Note: You can purchase either a new or remanufactured cylinder head. Keep in mind that disassembly and inspection will require special tools, and new parts may not always be available in the store. Based on this, it may be more practical and cost-effective to purchase a refurbished head than to disassemble, inspect, and rebuild the old one.
1. Remove the cylinder head as described in section A, B or IN this chapter. This procedure involves removing the camshafts, valve lifters, intake and exhaust manifolds. If necessary, loosen the mounting bolts and remove the coolant outlet hose and thermostat housing, the upper generator bracket and all auxiliary brackets, sensors and all other components.
2. Using the valve spring compressor ("desiccator"), squeeze the valve springs until it is possible to remove the crackers. Carefully wring out the compressor and remove the crackers, top plates, springs and spring seats (lower plates). Remove the valves through the combustion chambers (see Figure 9.2, a-d).

3. If the spring plates are stuck and do not allow the crackers to be removed, lightly tap the top of the compressor with a hammer, placing it against the plate, and separate the crackers from the plates and valve stems.
4. Using pliers or a special puller, remove the oil seals from the guide bushings (see figure 9.4).

5. It is very important to arrange and store the valves together with their springs, crackers, upper plates, tappets and seats (lower plates) springs, placing all parts in plastic bags with tags. Valves are worth keeping unless they are damaged to the point where they can be easily discarded and replaced with new ones. Please note that the cylinder numbering starts from the timing drive side.
