Removal
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Drain the coolant.
3. Loosen the nuts and remove the coolant inlet pipe (1) and remove the thermostat (2).
KZ series.
EJ series.
Examination
Note: as a rule, numbers are applied to the thermostat housing indicating the temperature at which the valve begins to open.
1. Place the thermostat in water and heat it slowly.
2. Check the opening temperature of the thermostat valve.
Opening temperature:
- kZ series - 78 - 82°C
- eJ series - 76- 80°C
3. Check the valve lift.
Valve lift:
- kZ series - 8.5 mm at 93°C
- eJ series - 8.5mm at 91°C
4. Make sure that when the thermostat is cold (less than 40°C) the valve is held closed by the spring.
Installation
1. Install the thermostat to the cylinder block.
a) Install a new gasket on the thermostat.
b) Install the thermostat as shown in the figure.
KZ series.
EJ series.
2. Install the coolant inlet pipe and tighten the nuts.

Tightening torque:
- kZ series - 7.2-10.8 Nm
- eJ series - 5.9 - 8.8 Nm
3. Fill with coolant.
4. Start the engine and check for leaks.
5. Check the coolant level.
