Airbag malfunction indicator

When turning the ignition key to the "ON" position (Ignition is on) the airbag malfunction indicator should light for 7 seconds and then go out. This means that the system is in good working order.

If the indicator's behavior differs from that described above, the airbag and/or seat belt tensioners require repair. If the airbag and/or seat belt tensioners are faulty, the following indicator behavior may be observed:
  • the indicator light is constantly on (longer than 7 sec);
  • the indicator light flashes intermittently;
  • the indicator does not light up at all.

Until the problem is corrected, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) and/or seat belt pretensioners will not function properly.

Brake Malfunction Indicator/Parking Brake Indicator

This indicator/warning light serves both the service brake system and the parking brake.

Parking brake indicator

The indicator lights up when the parking brake is applied.

Brake fluid low level indicator

The indicator warns of a dangerous drop in the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir. If the indicator lights up while the vehicle is moving, with the engine running and the parking brake off, stop the vehicle and do the following.

1. Check the brake fluid level. If necessary, add brake fluid to the reservoir.

Attention! If the brake fluid level has dropped below the "MIN" mark, which is located on the wall of the master brake cylinder reservoir, further operation of the vehicle is prohibited until the brake system has been checked for operability.

2. If the brake fluid level is normal, contact an authorized Toyota dealer to have the brake system malfunction indicator checked.

Note: If the indicator light comes on briefly during operation, this does not indicate a problem.

Driver's seat belt reminder indicator

The indicator reminds the driver to fasten his seat belt.

When the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, the reminder lamp starts to flash if the driver's seat belt is not fastened. If the driver does not fasten the seat belt, the lamp continues to flash.

Warning light to remind you that the front passenger's seat belt is not fastened

The indicator reminds the front passenger to fasten their seat belt.

When the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, the reminder indicator starts to flash if the passenger is in the front seat and the seat belt is not fastened. However, if the front passenger uses a booster seat cushion, the indicator may not flash even if the seat belt is not fastened.

If there is luggage or other load on the front passenger seat, depending on the weight and position on the seat, the sensors built into the seat cushion may detect this load, which will cause the reminder indicator to come on.

Low battery warning light

This indicator warns you when the battery is low.

If the indicator comes on while driving, it indicates a problem with the charging system.

However, the engine ignition will continue to operate until the battery is discharged. Turn off the air conditioner, fan, radio, etc. and contact your nearest Toyota dealer or repair shop directly.

Caution: Stop the vehicle if the engine drive belt is damaged or loose.

Engine system malfunction indicator light

This indicator warns of a malfunction in the engine electrical system, the electronic engine control system or the automatic transmission electrical system.

If the indicator comes on while driving, have the vehicle checked/repaired by your Toyota dealer as soon as possible.

If the engine speed does not increase when you press the accelerator pedal, there may be a malfunction in the electronic engine control system.

In this case, vibration may occur. However, it is possible to drive at low speed by pressing the accelerator pedal harder and slower. Have the vehicle checked by your Toyota dealer as soon as possible.

Even if you try to correct a malfunction of the electronic engine control system while driving at low speed, the system may not be restored until the engine is stopped and the ignition key is turned to the "ACC" or "LOCK" position.

Warning! Prolonged operation of the vehicle with the malfunction indicator on and delay in checking and necessary repairs of the engine management system will inevitably lead to deterioration of the vehicle's traction and dynamic properties, increased fuel consumption and failure of the engine management system. In this case, the vehicle warranty may be voided. Violation of the settings and normal operation of the engine management system may lead to exceeding the permissible toxicity standards of exhaust gases established by local or state standards.

Low Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light

This lamp warns that the oil pressure in the engine is too low.

If the light flashes or stays on while driving, pull off the road to a safe location and stop the engine immediately. Contact your Toyota dealer or qualified repair shop for assistance.

The indicator lamp may flash randomly when the engine is idling, or may come on briefly when stopping with sudden braking. If the lamp goes out when the engine accelerates slightly, the system is working properly.

The warning light may come on when the oil level is extremely low. This light is not intended to warn of low oil levels, so check the oil level periodically with the dipstick.

Low Engine Oil Warning Light (engines 2AZ-FE and 1MZ-FE)

This lamp warns that the engine oil level is too low. Add oil as soon as possible.

When driving on steep hills, bumpy or winding roads, the vehicle may bounce violently and the engine oil may vibrate, causing this light to come on.

Under normal conditions, due to oil consumption, this lamp may come on earlier than the scheduled maintenance interval. This is due to oil consumption to a low level within the scheduled maintenance interval and does not indicate a malfunction.

Caution: Prolonged engine operation with a low engine oil level will result in engine damage.

Low Fuel Warning Light

This indicator comes on when the fuel level in the tank is close to zero. On inclined and winding roads, due to the movement of fuel in the tank, the fuel level indicator lamp may come on earlier than usual.

Attention! Fill the tank at the first opportunity, without waiting for the pointer to drop to the bottom mark of the scale. The lower position of the pointer corresponds to the reserve fuel supply in the tank.

Control lamp of the "ABS" system

Cars without electronic stability control.

This lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position. If the anti-lock braking system and auxiliary brake system are working normally, the lamp will go out after a few seconds. After that, the lamp comes on if a malfunction occurs in one of these systems.

If the "ABS" indicator light comes on (and the brake system indicator light is not on), then the anti-lock and auxiliary braking systems do not work, but the braking system works normally.

If the "ABS" indicator light comes on (and the brake system indicator light is not on), then the anti-lock braking system does not work, so the wheels may lock up during sudden braking or when braking on slippery road surfaces.

In the following cases, this indicates a malfunction in the components monitored by the warning system. Contact your Toyota dealer as soon as possible to have the vehicle serviced.
  • When the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, the indicator lamp does not turn on or remains on.
  • The lamp turns on when moving.

A brief illumination of the indicator lamp during operation does not indicate a problem.

In this case, the anti-lock braking system does not work and the car is extremely unstable when braking.

Attention! If the "ABS" anti-lock brake warning light is lit together with the brake warning light, stop the vehicle immediately in a safe place and contact your Toyota dealer.

Cars with stability control system

This indicator lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, and if the anti-lock and auxiliary brake systems are working normally, the lamp goes out after a few seconds. After that, the lamp comes on if a malfunction occurs in one of these systems.

If the "ABS" indicator light comes on (and the brake system indicator light is not on), then the anti-lock and auxiliary braking systems, traction control system and electronic stability control system do not work, but the braking system works normally.

If the "ABS" indicator light comes on (and the brake system indicator light is not on), then the anti-lock braking system does not work, so the wheels may lock up during sudden braking or when braking on slippery road surfaces.

If any of the following conditions occur, it indicates a malfunction in the components monitored by the warning system. Contact your Toyota dealer as soon as possible to have your vehicle serviced.
  • When the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, the indicator lamp does not turn on or remains on.
  • The lamp turns on when moving.

A brief illumination of the indicator lamp during operation does not indicate a problem.

Vehicle door ajar warning light

This lamp remains on until all doors are securely closed.

Control lamp of the stability control system "VSC"

This lamp warns of a malfunction in the vehicle's stability control system or traction control system.

This lamp lights up for a few seconds when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position.

If the light is on, it means that the vehicle's stability control system and traction control system are not working. But if the regular brake system works when you press the pedal, you can continue driving without any problems.

If any of the following situations occur, contact your Toyota dealer:
  • the control lamp does not light after the ignition is turned on;
  • the control lamp continues to light after the ignition is turned on;
  • the lamp turns on when moving.

When the "VSC" indicator lamp comes on, the "TRC OFF" indicator lamp comes on even without pressing the "TRC OFF" switch.

Key reminder sound

The sound signal is activated when the driver's door is opened and reminds that the ignition key is in the "ACC" or "LOCK" position.
