To check antifreeze you will need the following tool:
  • A hydrometer, available commercially or at gas stations.

Before the winter season begins, it is necessary to check the concentration of antifreeze. Especially in the case where water was added to the system.

Start and warm up the engine until the upper radiator hose becomes warm.

Open the cap on the expansion tank.

Suck out the coolant with a hydrometer and determine the density of the liquid using the float. Antifreeze should protect the system from freezing in the latitudes of Germany to a temperature of -30°C. In very cold climates - to a temperature of -40°C.

Addition of cooling concentrate

In the latitudes of Germany, the cooling system must be protected from freezing down to a temperature of -30°C. The manufacturer's recommended ratios of components in the coolant must be observed.

Attention: Only use original TOYOTA coolant or an ethylene glycol-based coolant with anticorrosive properties. The cooling concentrate must be compatible with elements of the cooling system made of light alloys. Do not use alcohol-based coolants.

Close the cap on the expansion tank of the cooling system and after a test drive check the antifreeze content again.
