- Candle key.
- It is recommended to purchase special pliers, such as HAZET 1849, to facilitate the disconnection of the plug connection of the candle.
The following wear parts are required:
- Four spark plugs. Candle Types are given here.
Removing
Disconnect all spark plug connections. The special forceps mentioned above facilitate this procedure.
Candle niches must be blown out with compressed air to prevent dirt from entering the cylinders.
Unscrew the spark plugs with a spark plug wrench and check the condition of the spark plugs. With experience, this allows you to draw a conclusion about the condition of the engine. In this case, the following rules apply if the electrodes and the housing:
- have a gray color = the work of the candles is satisfactory, the mixture has the correct ratio;
- are black = mixture too rich;
- light gray = mixture too lean;
- oily = spark plug misfiring or bad piston ring seals (check compression).
Check spark plug insulator for leakage currents. Leakage currents appear through thin, uneven traces on the surface. If there are such traces, check for cracks on the spark plug insulator. Replace spark plug if necessary.
Installation
Check the spark gap with a feeler gauge.
New spark plugs usually have their spark gap set correctly look here.
To adjust the spark gap, bend the side electrode. There is a simple tool for this. You can lightly tap on the side of the electrode. You can rest the screwdriver on the edge of the thread and bend the side electrode. Do not rest the screwdriver on the center electrode.
Clean the threads on the spark plug body with a clean cloth.
Screw the spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand until it stops. Attention: Do not distort the candle while doing this.
Tighten the spark plugs with a force of 20 Nm.
Attention: If a torque wrench is not available, new spark plugs can be tightened by 90°with a spark plug wrench. Used spark plugs are turned 150°. For too strong wrapped candles, the thread may be torn off when unscrewed.
Connect the spark plug connectors. Ignition sequence 1-3-4-2.
Check by shaking the reliability of the plug connections of the spark plugs.
Checking electrical connections
Check the reliability of the electrical connections, the ignition coil and the ignition distributor.
Replace damaged contacts.
Clean corroded contacts with a brush or sandpaper and spray with spray.
Contacts must not be wet. Clean the contacts and spray with an aerosol.
Bend the ignition cable and check for cracks. Replace cable if cracked.
