3S-FE engine.
3S-GE engine. | 3S-GE engine. |
3S-FE, 3S-GE and 4S-FE enginesin-line 4-cylinder, 16-valve with overhead camshafts. The working volume of the 3S-FE, 3S-GE engines is 2.0 liters, and the 4S-FE engine is 1.8 p. The numbering of the cylinders is from the crankshaft pulley.
The order of the engine; 1-3-4-2,
Crankshaft 5-support with 8 counterweights installed on the extension of the crankshaft cheeks, designed to unload the main bearings from the action of centrifugal forces. Holes are made in the crankshaft for supplying oil to the main and connecting rod bearings and other elements.
cylinder head made of aluminum alloy. The spark plugs are located in the center of the combustion chambers.
The design of the intake manifold, with four independent long channels, allows you to use the effect of inertial boost.
Exhaust and intake valve springs are made of special carbon steel and have variable pitch to reduce resonance.
Camshafts
The exhaust camshaft of 3S-FE, 4S-FE engines is driven from the crankshaft by a toothed belt, and the intake camshaft is driven from the exhaust camshaft by gears. In the 3S-GE engine, the intake and exhaust camshafts are driven from the crankshaft by a toothed belt.
The camshafts have 5 bearing journals. Lubrication of the necks, cams and gears of the camshaft drive is carried out by oil, which enters through the oil channel located in the center of the shaft.
The clearance in the valve drive is adjusted by replacing the shims in the valve lifters. The shims can be replaced without removing the camshafts.
The timing belt cover consists of 2 parts. Technological hole in cover No. 1 provides the ability to adjust the tension of the timing belt.
The pistons are made of aluminum alloy.
piston pins - "floating" type.
Compression rings: the upper compression ring is made of stainless steel, the lower compression ring is made of cast iron.
Oil scraper ring consists of two scrapers and an expander. The oil scraper ring removes excess oil from the cylinder walls, preventing it from entering the combustion chamber.
Cylinder block cast iron. Wall length (generatrix) each cylinder is approximately 2 times the piston stroke. The upper part of the cylinder block is covered by the cylinder head, and the lower part of the block forms the engine crankcase, in which the crankshaft is installed. The cylinder block has a cooling jacket through which coolant circulates.
oil pan bolted to the cylinder block Oil pan is stamped from sheet steel. The dividing wall inside the oil pan retains a sufficient amount of oil, even when the vehicle is tilted. The dividing wall also prevents the creation of waves of oil during sudden braking of the car.
