This Chapter is about transmission components located between the rear of the engine and the wheels of the vehicle (excluding gearbox and transfer case, which are covered in Chapter Gearbox). According to their purpose, the components under consideration can be divided into two categories: cardan shafts and half shafts / drive shafts. The following Sections describe the design and operation of each of the individual components, as well as the procedures for checking the condition, removing and disassembling the components included in both groups.

Since most of the procedures described in this Chapter are performed under the car, special attention should be paid to the reliability of fixing the latter in a raised position.
