1. Wash the crankshaft with kerosene or another suitable solvent, dry it, if possible, with compressed air. Clean all holes with wire and blow with compressed air.

Caution! Wear safety glasses when working with compressed air.

2. Check the main and connecting rod journals for wear, cracks, pitting and scratches.

3. Wear of the connecting rod journals is manifested by a loud knocking sound from the engine during acceleration and some loss of oil pressure.

4. Wear of the main journals is manifested by engine vibration and dull knocks, which are also most noticeable during acceleration. Oil pressure also drops.

5. The roughness of the journal surface can be checked by running your fingernail along the shaft axis. Obvious wear without any measurements indicates the need for regrinding of the journals. If grinding is no longer possible, there is only one option left - replacing the crankshaft.

6. If the crankshaft has been reground, check for burrs around the oil passage holes (if the work is done professionally, there should be no burrs). Remove burrs with a file or scraper and clean the channels as described above.

7. Take the crankshaft to a specialized workshop for inspection, where experienced specialists will take the necessary measurements. In case of significant wear or damage to the crankshaft, they can regrind the journals and provide liners of the required repair dimensions. If the required liners are not available and the crankshaft wear has exceeded the prescribed limits Specifications, in this case the crankshaft can only be replaced.
