To carry out repair work, a clean workplace equipped with a workbench and a vice is required. There should be enough space to lay out the parts in a certain order so that they do not need to be constantly moved. In a well-equipped workshop, you can work comfortably and without haste, the car should be disassembled and assembled in a clean environment. But not everyone has such an ideal workplace and you need to come up with something. A lot of time and effort must be spent to eliminate the shortcomings.

Next, you need the most complete set of good tools. Quality is the basic law, as a cheap tool can cost more when it gets worn or breaks and damages valuable parts. A good tool lasts a long time and pays for itself. The main part of the tool is the wrenches, which can be used anywhere on the car where there is sufficient access. It is advisable to have a set of open-end wrenches for working with bolts and nuts with high tightening torques or in places where access is difficult.

To save money, you can buy a set of combination open-end wrenches, which have a regular wrench on one side and an open-end wrench of the same size on the other side. The heads of the wrenches are the best purchase. If the outer diameter of the head is not very large, they can be used to unscrew recessed nuts and in places with particularly difficult access.

The necessary tools are a set of Phillips-head screwdrivers, pliers and a hammer.

Additionally, you also need to have some special tools, which are usually invaluable when performing work that is done frequently. They save a lot of time. An example is an impact screwdriver, without which it is difficult to unscrew Phillips screws that are tightened at the factory. This screwdriver can also be used when tightening screws to ensure a tight connection. Also required are pliers for retaining rings, since very often gearbox gears, shafts and similar parts are secured with retaining rings. There are two types of such pliers, one for external and one for internal retaining rings. They also have straight or bent paws. The most essential tool is a torque wrench, which turns at a certain tightening torque of a nut or bolt. There are wrenches with a scale by which you can count the tightening torque. Tightening torques are specified in every modern operating and repair manual so that the most complex units, such as the cylinder head, are not damaged when tightening the fastening bolts and nuts.

The more complex the models become, the more tools are required to ensure the owner maintains the car. Unfortunately, some very special jobs cannot be done at all without special devices, which are very expensive, unless you contact a specialist. And here you need to be especially careful, because there are a number of jobs that are best left to a specialist. For example, a universal tester that allows you to determine a malfunction in electrical equipment can cause great harm in the wrong hands.

Although this repair manual will show you how to remove and install certain components without using special tools, it is still better to buy the most common special tool. It pays off when you want to keep the car for a long time.

Various parts can be removed without fear of damage using recommended, improvised methods and tools. However, in any case, a special tool made and sold by the car manufacturer will save a lot of time (and troubles).
