Editing deformation surfaces
Small dents are straightened with a straightening hammer with a lining on the back of the manual anvil sheet. Strong blows should not be applied, otherwise the sheet is pulled out, which precludes obtaining smooth surfaces. Straightening to produce from the edges of the damaged area to the center.
Constantly check the quality of the straightened surface by hand until the desired result is obtained. Small irregularities are later corrected with putty.
Carefully remove traces of rust and varnish residue after straightening from the damaged area with coarse sandpaper (grit 120), glued to a bar or a disc of abrasive paper on a cloth polishing wheel. Secure adjacent body trims with adhesive tape for protection.
To process places of through rust with a grinding disk. Cut sharp edges and slightly bend inward.
Repair of corrosion damage with fiberglass: This method is a temporary repair method, because after a while the damaged area begins to deteriorate again. This method repairs only unloaded elements of the body structure. Repair of a pre-primed place is carried out in the following order:
1. Make a temporary lining out of wood or thick cardboard and press it from behind to the corroded area. The shape of the lining must correspond to the convexity of the place being repaired in the body. Without the use of a gasket, repairs with fiberglass are difficult. The surface of the lining must be coated with a release agent.
2. Fiberglass is applied in three layers. In this case, the first layer should only slightly overlap the edges of the hole and the last one should overlap the edges by about 30 mm.
3. Mix polyester resin with hardener according to the instructions, observing the specified ratios of components. Otherwise, the hardening process is either too fast or too slow. A plaster cup can be used as a container. Excess resin can cause the composition to dry out already in the container.
4. Install the lining, smear it with polyester resin. After that, apply the first layer of fabric and soak it with a brush.
5. Allow the composition to dry for 24 hours. Remove lining. Remove excess fiberglass with a file.
6. Finally, apply a paint coat.
