If the needle is in the red zone or above, stop the car and let the engine cool down. The car can overheat under severe operating conditions, such as:
- driving uphill on a long hill on a hot day;
- slowing down or stopping after driving at high speeds;
- long periods of idling with the air conditioner off and driving with frequent stops;
- towing a trailer.
