Rear shock absorber and spring [Toyota Dyna Y50]

Removal the rear shock absorber and spring



1. Jack up the car and place supports underneath.

2. Raise the rear axle housing with a jack until the spring is free of load.



3. Remove the wheel.

4. Disconnect the shock absorber in the places shown in the figure.



5. Remove the U-bolts by unscrewing the four nuts and removing the spring pad.



6. Remove the spring.



a) Unscrew the eye pin nut.



b) Unscrew the eye pin bolt.



c) Unscrew the two nuts of the connecting bracket and remove the plate.

7. Remove the bushing from the spring.

Replacing the leaf spring



1. Using a hammer and chisel, bend back the clamps.



2. Clamp the spring in a vice near the center bolt and unscrew it.







Rear suspension.
1 - Spring,
2 - Stepladder,
3 - Plate,
4 - Bushing,
5 - Connecting bracket,
6 - Spring lining,
7 - Ear finger,
8 - Shock absorber,
9 - Stepladder saddle.


3. If necessary, replace the spring clamps.

a) Drill out the rivet and remove it.

b) Install a new rivet into the spring hole, then rivet the rivet.



4. Install the center bolt.



a) Align the holes in the sheets and secure the spring in a vice.

b) Install and tighten the center bolt.
  • Tightening torque - 49 Nm

5. Using a hammer, bend the spring clamp.

Installing the spring



1. Install the bushings into the spring.

2. Install the spring.

a) Install the spring on the rear axle housing and the spring lining.

b) Install the front part of the spring into the front eye, insert the pin. Tighten the eye pin bolt.
  • Tightening torque - 11 Nm

c) Screw on the eye nut without tightening it.

d) Install the rear part of the spring into the rear bracket and insert the connecting bracket.

d) Install the plate and screw on the two nuts without tightening them.

3. Install two step ladders and tighten them with four nuts.
  • Tightening torque - 123 Nm



Note: Tighten the U-bolts so that the bolt protrusion behind the nut is equal.




4. Install the shock absorber.



a) Screw the shock absorber to the frame.
  • Tightening torque - 24 Nm

b) Screw the shock absorber to the spring lining.
  • Tightening torque - 95 Nm

5. Install the wheel.

6. Rock the car to stabilize the suspension.

7. Tighten the eye pin nut and the connecting bracket nuts.
  • Tightening torque - 91 Nm
