Removing the coolant pump
1. Drain the coolant.
2. Remove the water pump drive belt.
A) Firmly press the fan pulley drive belt and loosen the pulley mounting nuts.
b) Loosen the pivot bolt and the belt tension adjustment bolt; remove the belt.
3. Remove the fan and coolant pump drive pulley.
(Variant with viscous coupling in fan drive)
Unscrew the four nuts securing the viscous coupling to the pulley, remove the fan, the coupling housing and the pump pulley.
(Option without viscous coupling in the fan drive)
Unscrew the four nuts securing the drive shaft to the pulley, remove the fan, drive shaft (hub) and pump pulley.
4. Remove the coolant pump.
A) Unscrew the bolt and disconnect from the pump housing the rod that regulates the tension of the coolant pump drive belt.
b) Remove the nut, four bolts and remove the pump and gasket.
Checking Coolant Pump Parts
1. Turning the pump shaft by the mounting flange, make sure that there is no play in the bearings, and that it rotates freely without sticking. If necessary, replace the pump.
2. Inspect the viscous fan drive clutch. In case of significant damage and leakage of silicone fluid, replace the coupling.
Installing the coolant pump
1. Install the pump with a new gasket on the timing chain drive housing; install the rod that regulates the tension of the coolant pump drive belt; secure these parts with a nut and five bolts.
Tightening torques:
- pump housing - 16 Nm;
- tension adjustment rods - 39 Nm
2. Install the pump drive pulley and fan.
(Variant with viscous coupling in fan drive)
Install the fluid pump drive pulley and viscous fan assembly with four nuts.
(Option without viscous coupling in the fan drive)
Secure the fluid pump drive pulley and fan assembly with its drive shaft with four nuts (hub).
3. Install and adjust the drive belt.
Adjust the drive belt tension.
4. Fill with coolant (see above).
5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
